This study investigates the potential of Red Sandy Soil as a natural adsorbent for the purification of used frying oils. Three different samples of used oil were examined:Oil used for frying potatoes,Oil used for frying fish oil, and restaurant oil. The chemical properties of these oils were analyzed to evaluate the effects of prolonged heating and deep frying. Oil used for frying potatoeswas heated for 20 minutes daily for a month at 180°C, while approximately 2 kg of fish were fried daily for 10 days. The restaurant oil was collected directly from a local eatery. Chemical analyses, including peroxide value (PV), thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value, conjugated dienes, and conjugated trienes, were conducted before and after purification using four different treatments: Silica , Red Sandy Soil, Silica followed by Red Sandy Soil, , and Red Sandy Soil followed by Silica. The results showed a significant increase in peroxide value, TBA, conjugated dienes, and conjugated trienes in all oil samples due to repeated heating, compared to the control samples. After purification, the Red Sandy Soil treatment demonstrated the highest efficiency in improving the chemical properties of the used oils, followed by the Red Sandy Soil then Silica treatment. The sensory properties of the used frying oils were also positively affected after the purification process, with red sandy soil showing the best results in improving oil quality. Therefore, red sand soil is a highly effective natural adsorbent for purifying used frying oils, significantly improving their chemical and sensory properties.
